THE ART COMMISSIONS THAT STARTED IT ALL

I solely bought an iPad for me to make my comics. I was still a young buck in the scene. I thought then that it would help me improve my line art and a faster turnover, The device was absolutely convenient for its portability. It did help me reach my objectives. Further, it helped me discover and experiment on other art styles that I haven’t used other than my cartoonishly style. However, my turnover time did not improve. It went entirely the opposite.

It was a November/December when Parokya Ni Edgar guitarist Gabriel CheeKee first contacted me for an art commission. It was a gift for his significant other Kha Santia as a Christmas gift. It was kinda thrilling because: 1) oooh, an art commission. 2) whoa, a celebrity client. I was nervous doing the commission because 1) I wanna make him a repeating client. 2) I wanna put out my best work out there. But I wasn’t good at coloring. I persevered.

Gab was happy with it. Plus, Kha too. After, I got commissioned by Kha to draw Gab. It was the same approach.

After, doing these two certain commissions, My steady flow of art commissions improved from different clients. I got to execute different art styles to them. But I still always go back to my lines. I’m grateful and fortunate for the experience. After this, Gab and Kha would still be my clients. But that’s another blog post. All for now.
